What Happens if I Can’t Take My Dog Off Leash for the Photos?

This is one of the questions I get asked the most in the consultation sessions.  If you can’t take your dog off leash for your photography session, that’s absolutely fine—I am accustomed to working with dogs who need to stay leashed for safety or behavior reasons. Here’s what typically happens:

  1. Leash Editing: I will edit out the leashes in post-processing, especially if you use a thin, neutral-colored leash. This allows your dog to remain safe and under control while still getting natural-looking photos.

  2. Safety First: Keeping your dog leashed ensures their safety, especially in unfamiliar or outdoor locations. I can work around the leash to capture your shots.

  3. Posing and Angles: I will do my best to position your dog to hide the leash as much as possible during the shoot.

  4. Handler Assistance: Ideally, a helper can hold the leash out of the frame, or I can use a long lead that is easier to edit out.

We will come up with a plan together during your consultation session!
